Each semester, WXAC, our very own college-run radio station, puts together a pond concert series. These concerts are designed to bring new styles and sounds to the ears of Albright students and staff. On the September 10th segment, Djangoholics Anonymous played for the second installment of the fall semester of 2014. This quintet, named after Django Reinhardt, specializes in a type of music known as gypsy jazz.

Django Reinhardt, to this day, is considered the father of gypsy jazz. Reinhardt was a guitarist from an early age, but a fire left his fourth and fifth fingers paralyzed. Unable to play the same way he once had, he adapted by playing guitar solos with only two fingers. This unconventional way of playing resulted in a new kind of jazz guitar technique.

Djangoholics Anonymous plays music inspired by the tradition of Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, a musician who later went on to perform with Reinhardt. Explaining their music to be the product of being hooked on Django, they captivate audiences with their swingin’, acoustic, gypsy jazz band feel.
